AceShowbiz - One year ago, Carson Daly was struggling with his mental health, battling anxiety and panic attacks. Daly, 51, shared with Page Six at the Project Healthy Minds Gala how he was at one of his lowest points both physically and mentally. "I was a wreck," he recalled.
Determined to make a change, he committed to taking a cold plunge every day, a practice he attributes to his improved state today. "I've cold-plunged every day for a year," he revealed. "I have a home cold plunge. 40 degrees, literally two minutes every day."
Although the routine proved to be beneficial, Daly emphasized that it never gets easier but expressed that doing hard things is beneficial.
Daly's openness about his struggles first came to light in 2018 following a candid conversation with NBA player Kevin Love. At the gala, he reiterated the importance of mental health advocacy and emphasized initiating these conversations, especially at home. "Their whole lives, they know two types [of health]: physical health and mental health," Daly told People Magazine.
He and his wife, Siri Pinter, who share four children - Jackson James, Etta Jones, London Rose, and Goldie Patricia - are committed to fostering an environment where their kids feel comfortable discussing both physical and mental well-being. "If you hurt your wrist at school, you go to the doctor. And if you're feeling sad and you really don't know why or if there's something going on in your mind, you talk to somebody about that too," he explained.
In addition to his cold plunge routine, Daly and Siri have been forthright with their kids about attending couples therapy through Zoom, demonstrating that seeking help is a normal part of maintaining a healthy relationship. "Marriage is hard. This helps mom and dad out. That's how I talk to my kids," he added.
Daly also shared a poignant memory of his first panic attack while hosting MTV's "Total Request Live," further underlining his personal connection to mental health struggles. He disclosed how this and similar experiences motivated him to support initiatives like Project Healthy Minds, which aims to remove the stigma around mental health and provide crucial support resources.
Daly's journey underscores the importance of facing challenges head-on, seeking help, and maintaining open communication about mental health. As he continues this path, he inspires others to take simple but significant steps towards better mental health, starting with a daily two-minute plunge into icy water.
