Dylan O'Brien speaks out about the near-fatal accident he experienced while filming 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure' and the impact it has had on his career.

AceShowbiz - Dylan O'Brien has opened up about the harrowing incident on the set of "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" where he sustained severe injuries. The accident, which occurred in 2016, forced production to shut down indefinitely.

Reflecting on the experience, O'Brien told Men's Health that his safety concerns were not adequately addressed, saying, "They were not listened to, they were not respected." He described the culture in the industry that often leads to young actors being controlled and pressured to avoid being seen as "difficult."

"It's very commonplace for young actors to be controlled, and the way they strive to do that is by always being like, 'Oh, don't become difficult. Don't be a pain in the a**,' " O'Brien explained. "Things like that."

After the accident, O'Brien realized the importance of prioritizing his own safety and not letting others manipulate him into thinking that doing so is being difficult. "Don't let them manipulate you into thinking that is being difficult," he said. "I can look at that day and know I was a 24-year-old kid who was raising concerns, and they were not listened to."

The accident had a profound impact on O'Brien's approach to filmmaking. He now feels empowered to stand his ground and ensure his own well-being on set. "At the end of the day, in these spaces, you have your own back, and that's the most you can rely on," he said. "I know I'm not difficult."

Despite the challenges he faced, O'Brien resumed his acting career and recently starred in Jason Reitman's "Saturday Night" as Dan Aykroyd. He continues to advocate for the importance of safety on set and encourages young actors to prioritize their own well-being.
