AceShowbiz - There's apparently no reason to worry about Sean "P. Diddy" Combs despite his current arrest. The embattled music mogul reportedly still maintain his power and influence after being stripped of his freedom.
A source tells PEOPLE that the 54-year-old remains "powerful" behind bars, so much that "everyone" is "afraid" of him. "He's so powerful. Everyone was afraid to cross him," the so-called insider says. "Even though he's behind bars now, he's still so powerful. We all knew it even back then."
"Everyone always chalked it up to being a creative genius when it came to his obsession with controlling things," the source adds. Highlighting his strength that allows him to survive in prison, the source claims, "He's incredibly smart."
The source goes on gushing, "He knows a lot of people, and he's helped a lot of people - so a lot of people owe him. He knows that." The insider believes that the Bad Boy Records founder "is capable of a lot - much more than people think, even now."
Diddy is currently in federal custody after he was arrested on September 16 in a Manhattan hotel. He faces charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. The rapper has pleaded not guilty to all the charges, though he could face up to life in prison if convicted.
Recently, his mother Janice Small Combs defended her son against a "public lynching" against him. "It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies," she said in a statement issued on Monday, October 7.
As she realized that her son is "not" perfect, she admitted, "He has made mistakes in his past, as we all have. My son may not have been entirely truthful about certain things, such as denying he has ever gotten violent with an ex-girlfriend when the hotel's surveillance showed otherwise."
"My son is not the monster they have painted him to be, and he deserves the chance to tell his side," Janice insisted. "I can only pray that I am alive to see him speak his truth and be vindicated."
