AceShowbiz - Ariana Grande has addressed the criticism she has faced over the changes she has made to her voice for her role as Glinda in the upcoming film adaptation of "Wicked". Grande, who will star alongside Cynthia Erivo in the Jon M. Chu-directed film, has been called out online for speaking in different registers.

In an interview, Grande explained that she intentionally alters her vocal placement depending on how much singing she is doing. She emphasized that this is a common practice for actors, both male and female, and expressed frustration over the double standard she has experienced.

"There is a part of the world that isn't familiar with what it takes to transform your voice," Grande said. "When it's a male actor that does it, it's acclaimed. But when a woman does it, she's criticized."

Grande added that she is proud of the work she has put into developing Glinda's character, including the changes she has made to her voice. "I gave 100 percent of myself to this role," she said. "So I wanted to protect it."

Grande's comments echo those of Austin Butler, who received similar criticism for altering his voice to play Elvis Presley in the biopic "Elvis". Butler has said that he believes his vocal transformation was necessary to fully embody the role.

"I don't think I sound like him still, but I guess I must because I hear it a lot," Butler said. "I had three years where that was my only focus in life. So I'm sure that there's just pieces of my DNA that will always be linked in that way."
