AceShowbiz - Charlie Hunnam has been cast in the upcoming third season of Ryan Murphy's anthology series "Monster" on Netflix. Hunnam will portray Ed Gein, a notorious serial killer who became infamous in the 1950s for his macabre crimes.
Gein, like the previous "Monster" subject Jeffrey Dahmer, hailed from Wisconsin. He was known for not only killing multiple people but also digging up graves and fashioning household items and clothing from human remains. His case has influenced countless pop culture characters, including Norman Bates on "Psycho" and Buffalo Bill on "Silence of the Lambs".
Murphy revealed the casting news during a promotional event in Los Angeles for 'Monster' season 2, which focuses on the Menendez brothers and the murder of their parents. The first season of the series starred Evan Peters as Dahmer, receiving critical acclaim and winning Golden Globe and Emmy awards.
Hunnam is best known for his role as Jackson "Jax" Teller in the FX outlaw biker drama "Sons of Anarchy". He has also starred in the Apple series adaptation of the book "Shantaram", as well as films such as "Pacific Rim", "The Gentlemen" and "True History of the Kelly Gang".
Season 3 of "Monster" will delve into the twisted mind of another serial killer, following the success of the Dahmer installment. However, details about the writers and other cast members have not yet been released. The series has been co-created by Murphy and Ian Brennan, who also serve as executive producers alongside Javier Bardem, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, David McMillan, Louise Shore and Carl Franklin.
"Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story", season 2 of the anthology, debuts on Thursday, September 19, with Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch starring as the titular brothers and Javier Bardem and Chloe Sevigny playing their parents.
