AceShowbiz - Charlie Hunnam has taken on a chilling new role as serial killer Ed Gein for the third season of Netflix's "Monster". In photos from the set, Hunnam is seen embodying Gein's distinctive appearance, complete with a red plaid jacket, brown plaid shirt, and comb-over hairstyle.
Gein was an infamous murderer who gained notoriety in the 1950s for killing multiple people and exhuming corpses near his Wisconsin home. He used the victims' remains to create disturbing household items and clothing.
Hunnam's portrayal comes after the success of "Monster" season 2, which followed the Menendez brothers who murdered their parents. The true crime anthology reenacts high-profile American murder cases, with previous seasons focusing on Jeffrey Dahmer and Lyle and Erik Menendez.
Ryan Murphy unveiled the third season's plot during the promotion of "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story" in September. Gein's infamous crimes, including mutilating victims and fashioning skin into objects, earned him nicknames such as "The Plainfield Butcher" and "The Plainfield Ghoul".
While filming scenes as Gein, Hunnam was spotted with co-star Vicky Krieps, indicating that the darker aspects of Gein's crimes may not yet be depicted on set. Netflix has ordered two more installments of "Monster" after the success of previous seasons, promising more chilling true crime stories to come.
