AceShowbiz - Cher has dropped her bid to be appointed as conservator of her son Elijah Blue Allman after reaching a private settlement with her 48-year-old child. The decision came after nearly nine months of legal proceedings.
In December 2023, Cher had filed for conservatorship, citing Elijah's alleged "severe mental health and substance abuse issues" that rendered him unable to manage his finances. Allman objected to the request, arguing that it was unnecessary and that his mother was "unfit to serve" as conservator.
After several hearings, where Cher expressed concerns about her son's safety and vulnerability, the court denied her request for a temporary conservatorship in January 2024, citing insufficient evidence. The parties subsequently agreed to mediation in May 2024.
On Friday, Cher's attorney announced in Los Angeles County Superior Court that the matter had been privately resolved and that Cher wished to withdraw her petition. Elijah's lawyer agreed to the dismissal, which was granted without prejudice by Judge Jessica Uzcategui.
Allman's attorneys praised the outcome as a "major legal victory" and stated that it would allow the family to focus on healing their bond.
Throughout the case, Cher emphasized her love for her son and her desire to protect him. Elijah, in turn, maintained that he did not need his mother's intervention and was managing his life responsibly. While acknowledging his past struggle, he insisted he was getting professional treatment and was regularly attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
Elijah is Cher's son from her marriage to Gregg Allman.
