AceShowbiz - Tom Cruise, renowned for his death-defying stunts, pulled off an adrenaline-pumping stunt at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Donning a motorcycle and the Olympic flag, he sped through the streets of Paris before skydiving near the Hollywood sign in California.
According to Casey Wasserman, chairman of the LA2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Cruise's performance was a labor of love. The actor didn't receive any money for doing his stunt.
"He finished filming 'Mission: Impossible' at 6 p.m. in London, got right on a plane, and landed in L.A. at 4 a.m. to film the scene where he pulls onto a military plane," Wasserman said. "He did two jumps out of the plane, helicoptered from Palmdale to the Hollywood sign, filmed for four hours, helicoptered back to Burbank Airport, and flew back to London."
Wasserman explained that Cruise insisted on doing all the stunts himself, despite the original plan involving a stunt double. "He goes, 'I'm in. But I'm only doing it if I get to do everything,' " Wasserman recalled.
Wasserman also praised the French team for their exceptional execution of the Olympics. "The French team deserves a lot of credit," he said. "They reminded people why people fall in love with the Olympics."
