Young and starry-eyed, James McAvoy found himself in a Hollywood dream turned awkward reality when he met Jennifer Aniston at a showbiz party, only to be left fumbling for words.

During an appearance on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," McAvoy recounted his uncomfortable first meeting with "Friends" alum, Jennifer Aniston, when he was just 22 years old and new to Los Angeles.
"I did meet her, and it wasn't great... [not] because she's not great," McAvoy recalled. The Scottish actor found himself starstruck and bashful, leading to a clumsy interaction that has become a memorable part of his early Hollywood days.
The encounter happened at a showbiz party shortly after McAvoy's arrival in LA. He first met Lucy Liu, who was "really, really nice" to him. "She was like, 'Come meet my friends,' " explained McAvoy. Liu led him over to a circle of her friends, which included none other than Jennifer Aniston.
However, just as Liu was about to introduce McAvoy to the group, she was pulled aside by an old high school acquaintance, leaving McAvoy standing awkwardly by himself.
Left alone with the group, McAvoy attempted to strike up a conversation with Aniston. "So, you're Jennifer Aniston, and you're in 'Friends,' " he said nervously. Reflecting on the moment, McAvoy described it as "rough," though he emphasized that Aniston was "lovely."
Despite the awkwardness of the encounter, McAvoy's upbringing equipped him to handle such moments. Raised by his grandmother after his parents' divorce, he credits her with helping him develop resilience in the face of life's challenges.
"I'm really lucky in a lot of ways, mainly that my granny's all over me. I've definitely got a large dose of what she has... She doesn't really give a f*** about what anybody thinks of her," McAvoy told The Guardian. His grandmother's influence has allowed him to navigate the highs and lows of the entertainment industry with a measure of grace and humor.
While his first meeting with Jennifer Aniston may have been awkward, it also serves as a humbling reminder of the starry-eyed excitement that many young actors carry with them as they embark on their journeys in Hollywood.
