AceShowbiz - At the Toronto International Film Festival, actress Amy Adams was honored with the Tribute Performer Award for her performance in "Nightbitch". In her acceptance speech, Adams paid tribute to her 14-year-old daughter Aviana, who also made her official red carpet debut at the event.
"You make me not only a better mother but a better person," Adams said. "Every day you challenge me." She added that the film, about a suburban stay-at-home mom transforming into a canine, resonated with themes of motherhood, parenthood, and identity.
Adams also thanked her collaborators, including Matthew Greenfield of Searchlight Pictures, her team of female producers, novelist Rachel Yoder, co-star Mary Holland, and director Marielle Heller. She praised Heller for her "fearless" approach and willingness to tackle challenging subjects. Adams presented the award to Heller, Denis Villeneuve, with whom she previously worked on "Arrival."
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Adams shared her excitement about sharing "Nightbitch" with her daughter. She explained that while she was protective of certain aspects of the film, she wanted Aviana to see how her mother's experience of motherhood has shaped her. Adams also expressed her happiness about turning 50 and feeling centered and grateful.
The synopsis of "Nightbitch" describes how Adams' character's domestic life takes a surreal turn as she becomes convinced she is transforming into a dog. The film is based on Yoder's 2021 novel.
