AceShowbiz - Searchlight Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for "Nightbitch", a darkly comedic horror film starring Amy Adams and directed by Marielle Heller. Scheduled for a December 6 theatrical release, the film explores the transformation of a stay-at-home mother into a canine creature.
Adapted from Rachel Yoder's acclaimed debut novel, "Nightbitch" follows Adams as a woman who grapples with the constraints of suburban motherhood and the emerging signs that she is turning into a dog. The film examines the power and instincts of womanhood, questioning societal norms and expectations.
Originally intended for streaming on Hulu, "Nightbitch" was acquired by Searchlight for a reported $25 million in 2022. The project was developed by Adams' Bond Group and Megan Ellison's Annapurna, with Heller writing and directing.
The trailer features Adams grappling with her transformation, exclaiming, "I'm never going to be smart, happy, or thin ever again. Oh, and I'm pretty sure I'm turning into a dog." Despite her newfound instincts, she asserts the power of creation and womanhood, saying, "Do you ever feel like the big secret is that we are gods? We f**king create life. We are so powerful."
Joining Adams in the cast are Scoot McNairy, Zoe Chao and Mary Holland. The film's producers include Adams, Marielle Heller, Anne Carey, Sue Naegle, Stacy O'Neil and Christina Oh. Executive producers are Megan Ellison, Sammy Scher, Havilah Brewster and Adam Paulsen.
"Nightbitch" is slated to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, September 7 and is set for a wide theatrical release on December 6.
