Amy Adams' Canine Co-Stars Went Berserk, Lunged at Her on Set of 'Nightbitch'

The 'Man of Steel' actress recalls one incident that 'almost ruined the whole set' when she freaked out her animal co-stars with her 'weird' acting during the filming of her latest movie.

AceShowbiz - Amy Adams, Scoot McNairy, and the cast of "Nightbitch" graced the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday. The film, directed by Marielle Heller, premiered at the event.

"Nightbitch" follows an overworked stay-at-home mom (Adams) who seeks respite amidst the chaos of caring for her rambunctious toddler. But as the synopsis states, "Also, she might be turning into a dog." McNairy plays her husband in the film, which also features Arleigh Patrick Snowdon, Emmett James Snowdon, Zoƫ Chao, Mary Holland, Archana Rajan, and Jessica Harper.

In a post-premiere Q&A, Heller shared the experience of working with the film's canine cast. "We had, I think, 12 dogs on set with 12 trainers all hiding in bushes," she said. "It's crazy how you work with dogs on set."

Heller spoke about the casting process for the dog that played Adams' character, Juno. "We were looking for a reddish husky and couldn't find one. So they adopted Juno from a shelter in California and trained her for months before filming," she explained. "She was the most gorgeous, incredible dog."

Heller and Adams also recalled a memorable incident when Adams' acting unintentionally unsettled the dogs. "There's a scene where Amy walks down the steps to the dogs in the yard," Heller said. "But Amy's acting when she does it, so she's doing this weird looking at the dogs and going like this, and the dogs freaked out and started lunging at her."

Adams added, "Except one dog. One dog was like, 'That's not okay. That's not cool.' "

"It almost ruined the whole shoot," Heller said. "The trainers were like, 'Oh, they thought she would be stalking them.' "

Adams acknowledged her unexpected effect on the dogs, saying, "So, yeah, I freaked the dogs out on the set."
