AceShowbiz - Glen Powell is stepping into a new arena with his latest role on Hulu's upcoming comedy series "Chad Powers", where he is nearly unrecognizable. In the first look at the highly anticipated series, the "Top Gun: Maverick" star trades his polished image for a shaggy hair-do, thin mustache and a seemingly prosthetic nose. Emphasizing the transformation, Powell dons a blue Nike shirt, yellow shorts and an arm sleeve.
The series chronicles the story of hotshot quarterback Russ Holliday, portrayed by Powell, whose bad behavior devastates his college football career. To get back into the game, Russ disguises himself and joins a struggling Southern football team as the affable Chad Powers. This amusing concept is inspired by a memorable 2002 "Eli's Places" video, where former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning goes undercover at Penn State Football's walk-on tryouts.
The series, ordered by Hulu back in February, sees Powell taking on multiple roles, not just as the star, but also as co-creator and co-writer of the pilot alongside Michael Waldron. Both serve as executive producers, along with Eli and Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown, Adam Fasullo of Waldron's Anomaly Pictures, and ESPN. Powell will also executive produce under his Barnstorm Productions banner, with 20th Television overseeing production.
The show boasts a notable ensemble cast, including Steve Zahn, Toby Huss, Perry Mattfeld, Wynn Everett, Frankie A. Rodriguez and Quentin Plair. According to the official series description, "When bad behavior nukes hotshot QB Russ Holliday's (Powell) college career, he disguises himself and walks onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers."
Powell's recent film credits have positioned him as one of Hollywood's versatile talents. From the romantic comedy "Anyone But You", which grossed nearly $200 million worldwide, to the action-packed "Twisters", accumulating over $335 million globally, Powell's star power continues to rise. Known for his performances in "Top Gun: Maverick", "Hidden Figures" and "Everybody Wants Some", this new comedy series marks Powell's significant return to television since his role on "Scream Queens".
In a recent joint Instagram post, Powell shared the first look of his character along with a throwback clip of Eli Manning's sketch, captioning "Think fast, run fast. Glen Powell is #ChadPowers in Hulu's new comedy series." The actor even humorously discussed taking over the role from Eli during an appearance on "The Eli Manning Show", with Eli playfuly teasing, "I thought that's why they cast you as Chad, just cause we have similar bodies."
As anticipation builds for "Chad Powers", fans can look forward to more of Powell's dynamic performances both on the small and big screens.
