Set in the vibrant, carefree world of 1980s college life, this coming-of-age dramedy from director Richard Linklater follows freshman pitcher Jake Bradford, played by Blake Jenner, as he arrives at a Texas university days before classes begin. Thrown into the rowdy, testosterone-fueled house shared by his baseball teammates, Jake must navigate a whirlwind of hazing rituals, late-night parties, and philosophical debates on art, music, and life. The team's charismatic leader, McReynolds (Tyler Hoechlin), and the cocky, fast-talking Finnegan (Glen Powell) immediately pull him into their orbit. As Jake forms a budding romance with a free-spirited theater major named Beverly (Zoey Deutch), he begins to question the team's rigid social codes and his own place within them. Blending the nostalgic, hangout vibe of Linklater's earlier work with a sharp, comedic edge, the film captures a pivotal weekend of self-discovery, where the ultimate game is figuring out who you want to be before the real season begins.
