AceShowbiz - Steven Spielberg's next directorial project has found its second A-list star, with Deadline reporting that Colin Firth is in early talks to join the cast alongside Emily Blunt, who entered negotiations in May. Firth's potential role in the film remains a mystery, as does the movie's exact plot.
The film, based on a story by Spielberg, is written by long-time collaborator David Koepp, who has penned screenplays for "Jurassic Park", "The Lost World: Jurassic Park", "War of the Worlds" and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". It is described as an "event film," a genre that Spielberg helped define with classics like "Jaws" and "Indiana Jones".
Spielberg's film, which is produced by Kristie Macosko Krieger, is scheduled to hit theaters on May 15, 2026, marking Spielberg's first summer release in a decade following "The BFG" in 2016. The project is a collaboration between Spielberg's Amblin and Universal, which will distribute the film.
Firth, who won an Oscar for his performance in "The King's Speech", recently appeared in "The King's Man" and "Operation Mincemeat" and has upcoming roles in the Peacock series "Lockerbie" and the Prime Video series "Young Sherlock".
Blunt earned an Oscar nomination for her role in "Oppenheimer" and recently starred in "The Fall Guy". She is represented by CAA and Sloane Offer, while Firth is represented by CAA, Independent Talent in the U.K. and Prosper PR.
