AceShowbiz - In her transformation for Netflix's "Griselda", SofĂa Vergara faced the challenge of portraying the titular character, a Colombian drug lord, while shedding her signature bombshell image. Vergara emphasized the importance of capturing Blanco's allure but needed to subdue her natural curves.
"I would have to wrap myself so that my butt wouldn't jiggle... I had to wear a really bad bra. I had to cover my arms because I have very skinny arms, and you don't look threatening when you have this stupid little arm," Vergara explained.
The physical transformation took over four hours of hair and makeup each day, involving prosthetics, facial and body makeup, and a complex wig application. Vergara even learned new skills for the role, including smoking, which she practiced with director Andres Baiz.
Despite the challenges, Vergara embraced the transformation, stating "I wanted the people to forget about Gloria - that was the main thing." In addition to her physical transformation, Vergara also altered her demeanor, changing her walk and speech to differentiate herself from her "Modern Family" character, Gloria Pritchett.
Vergara's hard work paid off, as she received positive feedback from viewers and earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Griselda Blanco. The miniseries is currently streaming on Netflix.
Despite having spoken about her body image and cosmetic procedures in the past, Vergara also joked about the possibility of a "Modern Family" reboot with Ed O'Neill, who played her on-screen husband, Jay Pritchett.
