AceShowbiz - Country star Elle King has revealed the pain she experienced during her controversial performance at the Grand Ole Opry earlier this year. In an interview with Kaitlyn Bristowe for her "Off the Vine" podcast, King said that she entered "a different type of therapeutic program" after the incident.
"I was very sad, and nobody really knows what I was going through behind closed doors," King shared. "And I just took that as, if it wasn't this, it's gonna be something else."
During the Ryman Auditorium performance in January, King slurred her words, sang incoherently, and proclaimed that she was "f**king hammered." She also had an exchange with audience members about refunds.
King said that she waited to address the situation until she "had better footing." She has since found "more silver linings" and considers herself "a different person."
"Ultimately, like, I couldn't go on living my life or even staying in the situation that I had been going through," she explained. "I couldn't continue to be existing in that high level of pain that I was going through at the time."
Following King's performance, the Grand Ole Opry apologized to attendees and fans on social media. Dolly Parton expressed empathy for King, saying that she had "been going through a lot of hard things lately."
