AceShowbiz - In a candid discussion on Andy Cohen's "Watch What Happens Live", Elle King, 35, revealed that she hasn't been in contact with her father, comedian Rob Schneider. This revelation comes on the heels of Schneider's public apology during an August interview with Tucker Carlson, where he acknowledged his "shortcomings" as a father.
"Umm, I'm not sure," King remarked when asked about their current relationship status. "I haven't spoken to him." Despite not watching the entire interview, King did watch the apology segment, stating, "I think it was like two hours long, so no. Nobody wants to listen to that. But I did see his apology, yeah. Of course, I watched that, yeah."
King's comments provide further context to her previous statements on Bunnie XO's "Dumb Blonde" podcast, where she criticized Schneider for being "toxic" and largely absent during her upbringing. She painted a picture of a parent who sent her to "fat camp," forgot her birthdays, and held opposing views on LGBTQ+ rights.
Responding to his daughter's comments, Schneider addressed King during his appearance on Carlson's YouTube show, saying, "I wish I was the father in my 20s that you needed, and clearly, I wasn't. I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings."
His apology, however, has left King and viewers questioning its impact. King noted, "Ultimately, I think an apology on Tucker Carlson is like a double negative, right? Means nothing."
Elle King recently spoke to PEOPLE about the unexpected scrutiny of her podcast comments. "I was just speaking about my childhood and about my truth. I was not trying to hurt him," she explained.
King defended her decision to be open about her family issues, stating that some things need to be expressed publicly to lighten the personal burden one carries. "Sometimes you have to just say things and get them off your chest so that you don't have to carry it for the rest of your life," she said.
Furthermore, King highlighted her dedication to advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, expressing satisfaction that her statements confirmed her stance as a queer ally. "The best thing that came from that is that my incredible LGBTQ+ community knows that they have an ally in me. And if that's the biggest thing to come out of that platform, then I would've done it 10 more f***ing times because I am an ally, they have one in me, and I'm grateful," she affirmed.
