AceShowbiz - Summer Walker shares an update on her mental health issues. On Sunday, July 7, the "CPR" hitmaker took to her Instagram account to post a screenshot of her DM exchange with a fan who asked about her social anxiety.
"Did you ever overcome your social anxiety," asked the fan. To the question, the "Girls Need Love" songstress, who canceled part of her "First and Last Tour" in 2019 due to social anxiety, replied, "yes, it wasn't anxiety I realized I just don't like y'all," though she clarified, "jk."
The fan responded, "LMAOOOOOO omg. I love to see it tho. Super proud of you." Summer wrote back, "Thanks youuuu."
While the fan didn't seem to be bothered by Summer's joke, some Internet users were not impressed. "How you tell the people that buy your music you don't like them lol artist these days," someone commented. "She wasn't joking she just want y'all to keep supporting her even tho she be weird to y'all," one other wrote.
"Thank god I have never been a fan," one other said. A fumed fan added, "And we love you?!! Don't be fooled…you're not everyone cup of tea either! WTH is wrong with these girls!!! Yall pander to folks when yall have music coming out but wanna tell them yall don't like them later? Mtchewwww."
Back in November 2019, Summer slammed people calling her social anxiety "an act" after she kept her acceptance speech at the 2019 Soul Train Music Awards very short. "You know, the scariest s**t I've been witnessing is that most of the women leaving negative comments like 'it's an act,' 'I don't have the right to act like this b/c I'm famous, b***h you slow' or just flat out making fun of me for being vulnerable," she wrote on Instagram.
"It makes me feel soo bad cause it's clear that if the children are developing or struggling with any type of mental disorder such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, it'll be brushed to the side and will never receive any treatment because it'll just be 'an act,' " Summer continued.
