AceShowbiz - Mavis Elizabeth Nicholson Leno has stepped out with Jay Leno amid her battle with dementia. During a day out with the famous TV host, the philanthropist was spotted with an apparent black eye.
In pictures that circulated online on Wednesday, July 3, it could be seen that the 77-year-old was out and about in Los Angeles, California one day prior. She was joined by her 74-year-old husband, who has been taking care of her amid her health issue.
Mavis and Jay were caught on camera driving around the city in their red car. While the former host of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" sat behind the wheels, she looked relaxed in the passenger seat.
One of the photos from the outing on the sunny day offered a close-up look at Mavis. In the particular snap, she appeared to have had a black eye. She was pictured looking around with a stern facial expression.
The new sighting came more than one month after Jay opened up about taking care of Mavis amid her "advanced dementia" battle. On May 14, the wedded couple made an appearance at the Feminist Majority Foundation's 16th Annual Global Women's Rights Awards Gala.
In an interview at the event, Jay said about his wife of 44 years, "I enjoy her company. I enjoy taking care of her. We have fun. She's the most independent woman I ever knew. Again, I just couldn't be prouder of her."
During the chat, Jay also emotionally reflected on their journey together. Throughout his speech, he held back tears as he called marrying Mavis "the smartest thing I've ever done." Reminiscing on his initial thoughts when meeting her, he said that he saw a "fire" in her from the start. "This is going to be a fascinating relationship," he recalled thinking. "And it has been."
In April, Jay was granted conservatorship over Mavis, a decision supported by her and upheld by the judge who recognized the excellent care he provided. This legal arrangement ensures that Mavis is in the "least restrictive environment" and under "very good care."
