The 'Elvis' star addresses speculation that he will portray Chris Shiherlis, the role originally played by Val Kilmer, in the upcoming 'Heat' sequel, while promoting his new film '[m=The Bikeriders'.

AceShowbiz - Following rumors of his potential involvement in "Heat 2", Austin Butler has responded to the speculation while promoting his new film "The Bikeriders". "I have a canned answer for this," said Butler, remaining tight-lipped about the reports.

"I love Michael Mann, the first film, and Val Kilmer," the "Dune: Part Two" star coyly added to ET. "He's an incredible filmmaker."

The news emerged in May when it was reported that Butler would star as Chris Shiherlis in the sequel. The role was originally played by Kilmer, 64, in the 1995 classic. Adam Driver is also rumored to be in negotiations for the project as a young Neil McCauley, originally portrayed by Robert De Niro.

Butler's response comes as he continues his meteoric rise in Hollywood. After earning an Oscar nomination for his performance as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's biopic, Butler has become a popular casting choice for major projects.

He recently expressed interest in joining the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, saying that while he was unaware of any online whispers about his potential casting, he would be open to the opportunity. However, he acknowledged that it might be difficult to live up to the legacy created by Johnny Depp.

Meanwhile, Butler focuses on promoting "The Bikeriders", which stars him alongside Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy and Mike Faist. The film follows Butler's character, Benny, who falls for Kathy (Comer) but faces complications from his commitment to a motorcycle club.

As for "Heat 2", Michael Mann has confirmed that the project is moving forward with a planned production start in November. The film is based on Mann's novel of the same name, which serves as both a sequel and prequel to the original "Heat".

While the full casting has yet to be announced, Butler's potential involvement would bring an exciting new element to the legendary crime thriller franchise.
