She explains that leaving a relationship doesn't automatically make one a "heartbreaker," as often things just weren't right, prompting her to end things. "It means that I was like, 'Oh, let me get the f*** out of here,' " she added.
Eilish's new album, "Hit Me Hard and Soft", reflects this emotional complexity. The album, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, includes the track "Lunch," where Eilish delves into her feelings for women for the first time.
"I'm lucky that we're in a period of time that is so much more welcoming in a lot of ways," Eilish told Lana Del Rey for Interview magazine. However, she admits to feeling pressured to explain herself constantly, which adds to her anxiety.
The conversation also touched on the parallels between Eilish and Del Rey's approach to love and breakups. Del Rey admitted that her tendency to break off relationships stems from a need to escape their reality.
"I tell people that they broke up with me, because essentially, they did. Because they made me do that," she explained. Eilish agreed, noting that ending a relationship with someone you genuinely love is immensely painful, and it deprives you of the ability to play the victim.
Eilish said, "You don't get to even have the, like, 'I got dumped, so f*** you guys. I get to go crazy and have a reaction and be mad at you. And I get to make you into an enemy, because you broke up with me," noting the emotional complexity involved in being the one to end a relationship.
While Eilish's latest heartbreak with The Neighbourhood's Jesse Rutherford was short-lived, she remains introspective about her outlook on love. Admitting her discomfort with vulnerability, she asserted, "I literally hate who I am so much when I'm in love."
Despite her current single status, Eilish humorously remarked that she plans on never dating again, though she acknowledges it likely isn't true.
