The '9-1-1: Lone Star' star reveals his hope for Zac Efron to portray him in his future biopic, discussing his admiration for Efron and their past connection.

AceShowbiz - During an interview with his son, John Owen Lowe, for E-Tea in association with Ancestry.com, Rob Lowe expressed his desire to have Zac Efron play him in a biopic. When asked who he would like to portray him in a film, Lowe promptly responded with Efron.

"Who would you want to play you in a movie about your life? And let's say I'm off the table," John Owen asked his dad as they interviewed each other. The 60-year-old responded, "Zac Efron. '[The Iron Claw]'? Amazing. He's amazing."

John Owen jokingly questioned the choice, but Rob insisted on Efron's talent and suitability for the role. "No, yeah, Zac Efron would be great," John Owen said sarcastically. "I think that -- that would be a funny phone call to sit in on. You trying to pitch that to his agents. It would be great casting. I'm just saying I don't think Zac Efron would do it."

Lowe has a long-standing admiration for Efron. In 2013, after Efron sought treatment for substance abuse issues, Lowe compared himself to the younger actor, offering him support and advice. He has expressed pride in Efron's growth and sees him as a potential mentee.

The Lowe father-son duo also discussed their family history during their interview. They discovered a surprising connection to John Cougar Mellencamp, revealing their distant cousin relationship.
