The 'Can It Be All So Simple' rapper, whose real name is Clifford Smith, Jr., clarifies his remarks just days after taking the stage at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, along with Redman.

AceShowbiz - Method Man has set the record straight on his recent comments. Days after declaring that he will never perform at Hot 97's Summer Jam again, the "Can It Be All So Simple" rapper clarified that he wasn't "mad" at the crowd.

"I wasn't mad at the crowd," the 53-year-old said when speaking to TMZ on Saturday, June 8. "It was just a generation gap. I showed grace."

"I don't think it's fair. I would never point my finger at the crowd for not liking my music," the emcee cotinued. "I was there for Mister Cee and it was New York. I figured, I'm in New York, I'm in my backyard. [People] know who I am."

Method Man took the stage at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York on June 2, along with Redman. Other veteran artists who performed at the event included Big Daddy Kane, EPMD as well as Jadakiss.

However, when the festival shared a video from his set on Instagram, Method expressed his disappointment in the comment section. "Not our crowd at all," he penned. "Thanks again, New York and the whole tri-state (that showed up to the event) plus Pete[er Rosenberg] and Ebro [Darden] I got love for you guys, but never again.. at this point the generation gap is just too wide for me.. #nevercomingback."

One day before the event in New York, Method Man and Redman linked up with Black Thought, Common and Freeway for an all-star remix of "4,3,2,1" at J.Period's Live Mixtape set at Roots Picnic over the weekend. During the show, The Roots spitter rapped new verses over classic beats such as Wu-Tang Clan's "Protect Ya Neck", Method Man's "Bring the Pain" and Redman's "Tonight's Da Night".
