AceShowbiz - Sarah Hyland's current role in the Off-Broadway revival of "Little Shop of Horrors" has elicited a strong response from her husband, Wells Adams. While the actress plays the beloved skid row sweetheart Audrey, her portrayal has ignited a specific reaction in her spouse.
During an appearance on "Live with Kelly and Mark," Hyland revealed that Adams had an unusual response to hearing her take on the character. "He was like, 'This is going to be very sexual for me,' " Hyland recalled. "He goes, 'It's like my wife is doing Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny and it's very hot.' "
Despite not mimicking the Broadway legend Ellen Greene's iconic accent for the role, Hyland gave Adams a preview over the phone. The reaction she received was beyond her wildest imagination.
"I don't do the Ellen Greene accent," explained Hyland. "But my husband was asking me on the phone, 'Hey, how do you do it? Do it for me!' So I gave him a little preview over the phone of the accent."
Hyland's performance has been well-received by past stars of the production. Darren Criss, Skylar Astin and Matt Doyle have all reached out to congratulate her and share their approval.
Hyland and Andrew Barth Feldman, 22, joined the "Little Shop of Horrors" company on May 28. The pair join a long line of acclaimed actors who have graced the Westside Theatre stage, including Jonathan Groff, Tammy Blanchard and Evan Rachel Wood.
Directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer, the musical features a score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman and includes classic showtunes like "Skid Row", "Suddenly Seymour" and "Feed Me".
Hyland's return to the New York stage marks a significant milestone in her career. After a 17-year absence, she has embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and support from her talented cast and crew.
"Everyone that's a part of Little Shop - the crew, the creative team, all of the actors - are just like, the kindest nicest most talented people," said Hyland.
"And then to be doing it alongside Andrew Barth Feldman who is a genius and he's so talented. I can't talk more about it than I already have. We just have so much fun together and I’m having a blast."
