Che joked that Iowa had announced the retirement of Clark's jersey, to be replaced by an apron. This prompted Clark to confront Che about his numerous jokes about women's basketball.
Clark then presented Che with a list of jokes to read. One poked fun at the Indiana Fever, who hold the first pick in the WNBA draft and are likely to select Clark. "The Indiana Fever have the first pick in this Monday's draft," Che read. "A reminder that the Indiana Fever is a WNBA team and not what Michael Che gave to dozens of women at Purdue University."
In the end, Clark gave Che an autographed pink apron, thanking him for his help in raising awareness for women's sports. She paid tribute to pioneers like Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, and Maya Moore, who paved the way for her and countless other female athletes.
Prior to her SNL appearance, Clark learned that she might be featured on the show during her team's Final Four appearance. She expressed excitement at the opportunity to "set them straight about women's sports" and admitted to being more nervous than before a basketball game.
Clark's appearance on "Weekend Update" comes as she prepares for the WNBA draft, which takes place on Monday in New York City. The Indiana Fever are widely expected to select her with the first overall pick.
