The Oscar-winning actor, who last portrayed the tech billionaire superhero in 'Avengers: Endgame', says he would 'happily' return as Tony Stark in another MCU movie.

AceShowbiz - Robert Downey Jr. has given Marvel fans hope of seeing him again as one of their favorite superheroes. The Iron Man depicter in Marvel Cinematic Universe said he would "happily" return as Tony Stark a.k.a. the tech billionaire superhero.

The Golden Globe Award winner expressed his willingness to do another MCU movie in a new interview with Esquire. "It's too integral a part of my DNA," he said when asked if he would ever return to the franchise after winning his first Oscar.

The 59-year-old went on sharing, "That role chose me. And look, I always say, never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He's the house. He will always win."

Showing how much Iron Man has been part of his life, Downey cited Tony's line in a scene with Pepper Potts' (Gwyneth Paltrow) at the end of the interview. "I'm hopefully alighting to greener pastures, because in the final analysis, these things are meant to be signals, not signs. They're meant to point to something, not to be a destination in and of themselves," he said. "It's like what Tony Stark says to Pepper Potts when he gets out of the cave and makes it home: 'All right, vacation's over.' "

Downey first portrayed the character in 2008's "Iron Man", which was the first film in the MCU. He went on reprising the role in nine other films, with his last time portraying the superhero in 2019's "Avengers: Endgame".

There have been rumors about an "Avengers: Secret Wars" movie bringing back all the original Avengers, including Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow and Chris Evans' Captain America, but nothing has yet materialized.

Meanwhile, following the end of his tenure as Iron Man, Downey recently starred in Christopher Nolan's awards-winning movie "Oppenheimer". The epic biographical thriller won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy and Best Supporting Actor for Downey, marking the first Oscar for both actors.
