AceShowbiz - The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is calling on actor Jason Bateman to discontinue promoting Organic Valley dairy products on his podcast "SmartLess" for allegedly spreading "false and misleading marketing claims."
In a letter to Bateman and his representatives, PETA criticized an advertisement aired in the March 18 episode featuring John Oliver, which claimed that Organic Valley's products are "ethically sourced from small family farms where cows spend lots of time grazing outside an organic pasture."
PETA refuted these claims, stating that cows used for dairy production are typically kept in confinement, milked multiple times daily and subjected to artificial insemination to maintain milk production. The organization also highlighted the separation of newborn calves from their mothers, causing significant distress for both animals.
Female calves face the same fate as their mothers, while male calves are typically sent to feedlots for slaughter. PETA further condemned the common practice of cows standing in their own filth on concrete floors for extended periods, leading to various health issues.
The animal rights group urged Bateman to stop promoting Organic Valley on his podcast, arguing that the information provided to listeners is misleading and harmful to cows. PETA emphasized that "animals used for such dairy production are not 'ethically sourced' and are harmed in the process."
The "SmartLess" podcast, co-hosted by Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, recently signed a three-year deal to move to SiriusXM. The deal provides SiriusXM exclusive content, including early access to new episodes of SmartLess and additional podcasts. The financial terms of the agreement are reportedly worth over $100 million.
As of now, there has been no response from Bateman or his team regarding PETA's request.
