AceShowbiz - "Killers of the Flower Moon" is heading into the awards season with a strong start. The Western historical epic has come out as the biggest winner at the National Board of Review Awards 2023, which were announced on Wednesday, December 6.
Leading in terms of number with four, the crime drama film bagged some of the coveted awards, including Best Film. Its star Lily Gladstone was chosen as Best Actress, while Martin Scorsese, who helmed the movie, was named Best Director.
The movie got its fourth win for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography. Rodrigo Prieto, who received the accolade, was cited for his work both for Scorsese's film and Greta Gerwig's comedy "Barbie".
Trailing behind with three awards was "The Holdovers", which helped Paul Giamatti earn the Best Actor prize for his role as a strict classics professor, Paul Hunham. The Alexander Payne-directed pic also bagged Best Supporting Actress for Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Best Original Screenplay for David Hemingson.
Best Supporting Actor went to Mark Ruffalo for his role in "Poor Things", while Bradley Cooper was presented with NBR Icon Award. Teyana Taylor won Breakthrough Performance for her role in "A Thousand and One", with "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse", "Anatomy of a Fall", "John Wick: Chapter 4", "The Iron Claw" and "Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie among other winners.
The annual awards gala will be held on January 11, 2024 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City, and will be hosted by television personality and journalist Willie Geist. Over the last 30 years, the winner of NBR's best film has typically gone on to receive an Oscar nomination for best picture, with a few exceptions such as 2014's "A Most Violent Year", 2000's "Quills" and 1998's "Gods and Monsters".
