The 'Unholy' duo's hell-themed performance at the awards show has been facing intense backlash from conservative on social media, including Ted Cruz who labeled the stage act 'evil.'

AceShowbiz - Sam Smith and Kim Petras' hell-themed performance at the 2023 Grammy Awards has caught the Church of Satan's attention. However, magister David Harris from the community said that the stage act was "nothing special."
David told TMZ that he was "underwhelmed" by the performance as well as the singers who were "nothing particularly special." The senior Church of Satan figure also thought that the stereotypical imagery used by the musicians was just "alright."
David said that red clothing, devil horns and fire are "kind of passe" now. "It's sad when politicians on a national stage use someone's religion as a punchline," David added, referring to Senator Ted Cruz's tweet that branded the performance "evil." David later called Ted, Congresswomen Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert "a bunch of delicate snowflakes."
Despite being unimpressed by Sam and Kim's performance, the magister said the Church of Satan did say that Lil Nas X's "Montero" is more in line with the philosophies of the organization. In the music video the rapper himself descends into hell, after murdering Satan and taking the devil's crown for himself.
Sam and Kim's performance has been facing backlash on social media. Some viewers likened the extravagant performance to "devil worshipping." One person posted on Twitter, "This video hits all the checkpoints, from Sam Smith and [their] outlandish stance on cultural appropriateness, to devil worshipping & diminishing religion."
Other social media users, however, were quick to defend the artists, with one person tweeting, "Evil is when a man walks into a school & murders a dozen children Evil is when Russia bombs schools & hospitals to steal land Evil is NOT when a musician dances around in a devil suit performing a hit song." Someone else opined, "What's worse? You flee your state as people freeze or artists performing during a awards show? I'll wait…."
Despite the backlash, Sam and Kim made history at the event. Sam, who uses "they/them" pronouns, became the first non-binary artist to win in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category, while the German pop songstress became the first trans woman to take home the award.
