AceShowbiz - "Yellowstone" is seemingly facing a major crisis that may end up with the show's premature cancellation. According to a new report, a behind-the-scenes dispute involving leading man Kevin Costner is happening in TV's No. 1 drama
Deadline states, "The crux of the issue… involves Costner and disagreements over schedules." The Oscar-winning star originally allotted himself 65 days to film the first part of the show's current fifth season, but he changed his mind and wanted to film for 50 days only. As the cast is currently shooting the second half of the episodes, the actor allegedly wanted to limit it to just one week of shooting on the remaining eight episodes of season 5.
His request reportedly causes a rift with not only series creator Taylor Sheridan, but also his other co-stars. According to the new report, Kevin's filming schedule has been a "source of frustration" for Taylor. It's also "causing morale problems with his co-stars, who includes Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille and Gil Birmingham."
Paramount Network reportedly declined Kevin's alleged one-week-only work proposal. Instead, the network is planning to launch a new spin-off of "Yellowstone" starring Matthew McConaughey that will air on the linear cable channel Paramount Network and then stream exclusively on Paramount+.
It is unclear if the Matthew-fronted show will be set in the Dutton ranch in Montana or not. Should they proceed with the new series, it will be another spin-off from the hit series following "1883" and "1923". Additionally, Taylor is developing "Bass Reeves" and "Yellowstone: 6666", which is set on the Four Sixes Ranch first seen on "Yellowstone".
Meanwhile, Paramount Network has responded to the report in a statement. "We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of 'Yellowstone' and we hope that's the case for a long time to come," the statement reads. "Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansion of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we'd love to partner."
