The actor admits that he got interested in the singer after seeing her at the Soul Train Awards, but it was not until four months later that he decided to approach her at a listening party in Los Angeles.

AceShowbiz - Shemar Moore once asked Alicia Keys on a date, but unfortunately he was met with rejection. When appearing on "The Jennifer Hudson Show", the "Criminal Minds" star recalled the moment when the singer turned down his "flirt game."

"I tried to get at Alicia Keys, I ain't gonna lie. I tried!" the 52-year-old told Jennifer Hudson in the Thursday, January 26 episode of her show. "I saw her at the Soul Train Awards, I was in my dressing room. I looked at the monitor, there she was with her cornrows."

"And this is when her (2001) song Fallin' was first blowing up, she was just getting ready to explode," he further recounted. "So she's playing the piano, doing her thing and my favorite instrument is the piano."

Shemar admitted he got interested in Alicia at the awards show, which he hosted. However, it was not until four months later that he decided to approach her at a listening party in Los Angeles.

"I go over and go, 'Hey, Alicia, you're wonderful and your piano (playing) is amazing, I don't know what your man situation is like but if you're ever in L.A., I'd love to take you for a drink,' " he recalled. The actor additionally said that Alicia's aunt "was right there, laughing and snickering at me."

As for Alicia, she allegedly replied, "Check this out, son. I respect your flirt game, but my man situation is handled." Shemar then explained, "I walked away so uncool. And my boy was like, 'What happened?' and I was like, 'I don't want to talk about it, let's go.' "

The incident seemingly took place when Alicia was in her low-key relationship with longtime collaborator Kerry "Krucial" Brothers Jr. While she is now married to music producer Swizz Beatz, Shemar is dating Jesiree Dizon.
