AceShowbiz - Nick Carter has been hit with a serious allegation. A woman named Shannon "Shay" Ruth claimed the singer raped her after he performed at a Backstreet Boys concert back in 2001 when she was still underage.
Ruth brought up the accusation in a lawsuit and a press conference that took place on Thursday, December 8 at Los Angeles' Beverly Hilton hotel. "The last 21 years have been filled with pain, confusion, frustration, shame and self-harm that are a direct result of Nick Carter raping me," she first claimed.
"Even though I'm autistic and live with cerebral palsy, I believe that nothing has affected me more or had a more lasting impact on my life than what Nick Carter did and said to me," the now-39-year-old further alleged. "After he raped me, I remember him calling me a 'r******d b***h' and grabbing me and leaving bruises on my arm."
Noting that Carter "tried to scare [her] into silence," Ruth dubbed the musician "nasty and threatening." She also explained the reason why she was silent all these years because she was afraid to "go to jail."
However, Ruth said she decided to speak up now to "stop" Carter from "assaulting more teens and women" and "hold [him] accountable." She added, "Just because Nick Carter is a celebrity does not mean that he is excused from his crimes... I am a survivor and always will be."
In her lawsuit, Ruth said she was invited to Carter's tour bus following a Backstreet Boys in Tacoma, Wash after standing in an autograph line. She claimed Carter offered her "a funny-tasting beverage that he called VIP juice", which she now believes was a mix of alcohol and cranberry juice.
The "I Want It Thay Way" crooner reportedly told the alleged victim to perform oral sex on him as she burst into tears. It was also stated that he took her to a bed on the tour bus, where he continued to sexually assault the then-17-year-old, who was still a virgin at that time. The plaintiff also noted that she got HPV after the incident.
