The 'SNL' alum also hits the stage to deliver his opening monologue where he references nominated shows and movies, including 'Stranger Things', 'The Batman' and 'Nope'.

AceShowbiz - Kenan Thompson knows how to open a party. The "Saturday Night Live" alum kicked off the 2022 People's Choice Awards on Tuesday, December 6 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California with a parody of Paramount's hit series "Yellowstone".

Titled "Blackstone", the opening saw Kenan donning his own Dutton family-inspired attire. He completed his look with a cowboy hat and emblazoned vest while sitting on top of a real horse.

Coming from the "wide plains of Atlanta," the comedian said that he had been sent to California by John Dutton, Kevin Costner's character on "Yellowstone". His remarks successfully delighted the A-list stars in attendance, including Music Icon Award winner Shania Twain and People's Icon of 2022 Ryan Reynolds.

Following the parody, Kenan hit the stage to deliver his opening monologue. He put in references to shows and movies that were nominated in this year's People's Choice Awards including "Stranger Things", "The Batman", "Jurassic World Dominion" and "Nope".

While talking about "The Batman", Kenan joked, "Man, how dark can Batman get? If he gets any darker he's going to be Wesley Snipes!" Elsewhere in his monologue, Kenan hilariously trolled Tom Cruise by giving a nod to "the 60-year-old man who does his own stunts in 'Top Gun: Maverick'."

He also gushed over Lizzo, who was named as 2022 People's Champion Award winner. "Lizzo is our People's Champion tonight. Indeed, Lizzo, you showed the world that anybody can play the flute while they are twerking in a thong if they really want to. I've got to say, looking forward to seeing that from Dwyane Wade tonight," he said.

Prior to the ceremony, Kenan revealed in an interview that he was focused on having "a good time" while "celebrating the people's choices." He continued, "It's like who they want to be, who they want to see get a trophy. There's very hard workers out there in the biz."
