The beloved comedian faces backlash after joking about Christmas in an episode of his brand new Disney+ series 'The Santa Clauses', on which he reprises his role as Scott Calvin.

AceShowbiz - Tim Allen landed in hot water for his joke about Christmas on his brand new Disney+ show "The Santa Clauses". On Thursday, November 17, the beloved sitcom dad was attacked by woke Twitter users for his joke that they deemed "problematic."

The mini-series, which sees Tim reprising his 1994 role as Scott Calvin, aired its first two episodes on Wednesday. In one scene, his character asked Santa Claus if something was bothering him. To that question, the Christmas icon replied that he's "fine," except that "saying 'Merry Christmas to all' has suddenly become problematic."

Filmmaker Scott Weinberg brought attention to the line when he posted it on Twitter. In another tweet, he added, "it just struck me as a truly weird thing to put in a kid's series. ' wants to stop us from saying Merry Christmas!' is not some random campaign. it's a low-key effort to vilify anyone who doesn't celebrate this holiday. in a grown-up movie I'd just groan and ignore it."

The post quickly sparked debate on the platform. "What kills me with people being so up in arms about the phrase 'Happy Holidays' is that a song with that title came out in 1942 and has been popular ever since," one person said.

"Number of people I've seen take offence to 'Merry Christmas': 0 Number of conservatives I've seen take offence to the idea they made up that people take offence to 'Merry Christmas': So freaking many,' " someone else added. One other questioned, "What's this 'War on Christmas' nonsense doing in my Disney Santa movie?"

One person, meanwhile, explained that people have opted to say "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas" is because they don't want to offend people who celebrate other religious holidays, such as Hanukkah. "We don't say it to not offend. We say it to include. We say it because we acknowledge that there might be things out there we don't personally observe. Has nothing to do with offence," the person said.

"It's Tim Allen, that's not shocking to me," another critic noted. Someone even called for Tim's cancellation, writing, "Remember when Disney cancelled Tim Allen from being Buzzlightyear? They shoulda cancelled him from being Santa too."

Tim has yet to comment on the backlash.
