Emmys 2022: Michael Keaton and Julia Garner Among Early Winners

Taking place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with Keenan Thompson taking the hosting duty, the ceremony will honor excellence in national primetime programming.

AceShowbiz - The highly-anticipated 2022 Daytime Emmy Awards finally took place on Monday, September 12. Held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, the ceremony will honor excellence in national primetime programming. This year's contenders feature plenty of familiar names, including previous champions like "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", "Succession" and "Ted Lasso", as well as newcomers such as "Abbott Elementary", "Only Murders in the Building", "Severance" and "Squid Game".

Announced by Oprah Winfrey, the first award to be given out that night was Outstanding Lead Actor, Limit Series or Movie. Michael Keaton successfully took home the award, thanks to his brilliant performance on "Dopesick". On the series, Keaton took on the role of Dr. Samuel Finnix, a small-town family doctor in a mining town who sees devastating effects of OxyContin first-hand.

The actor edged out fellow nominess that included Colin Firth ("The Staircase"), Andrew Garfield ("Under the Banner of Heaven") and Oscar Isaac ("Scenes from a Marriage"). Also in contention for the award were Himesh Patel ("Station Eleven") and Sebastian Stan ("Pam & Tommy").

Joining Keaton as one of the early winners on the night was "The White Lotus" actor Murray Bartlett, who was named as the winner of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. The actor beat out fellow "The White Lotus" stars Jake Lacy and Steve Zahn, Seth Rogen ("Pam & Tommy") and "Dopesick" actors Will Poulter, Peter Sarsgaard as well as Michael Stuhlbarg. His victory marked the first win for "The White Lotus".

Later, it was time to present the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series which was later revealed to go to Matthew MacFadyen for his performance on "Succession". The Tom Wambsgans depicter on the hit HBO series successfully bested fellow "Succession" stars Nicholas Braun and Kieran Culkin, Billy Crudup ("The Morning Show"), "Squid Game" actors Park Hae-Soo and Oh Young-Soo as well as "Severance" stars John Turturro and Christopher Walken.

As for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Julia Garner received the honor thanks to her performance on "Ozark". Among the nominees for the category were Patricia Arquette ("Severance"), Jang Ho-Yeon ("Squid Game"), Christina Ricci ("Yellowjackets"), Rhea Seehorn ("Better Call Saul"), J. Smith-Cameron ("Succession"), Sarah Snook ("Succession") and Sydney Sweeney ("Euphoria").

The 2022 Emmy Awards is currently underway with Kenan Thompson hosting.
