AceShowbiz - Netflix releasing an official Monopoly game tie-in ahead of the arrival of "Stranger Things" season 4 may not a good move. The board game reportedly has spoiled some plot elements from the upcoming highly-anticipated season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, some images from the set of game cards have started to circulate online. Much to most people's dismay, they seemingly offer some spoilers of major plot points from the new season.
Understandably, series creator, Matt and Ross Duffer, were allegedly not happy about it. Sources close to the brothers claimed that the pair had a "total meltdown" about the situation.
In a Reddit thread that first leaked the images, it was said that the game, which is not officially out yet, was purchased at "a nationally recognized retailer and purchased fair and square by a consumer." It claimed that "nobody stole it; nobody leaked a sample." It is unknown if that's true, but some alleged copies of the game board do show up on sites such as eBay.
Following the toy spoiler, a source said, "Lessons have been learned and, I expect, there will be more cohesion going into season five." The informant noted that considering the amount of "Stranger Things" franchising world must have accidentally passed Go.
This wasn't the first time for a tie-in spoiled a major entertainment brand as "Star Wars" experienced this so many times over the years. "The Mandalorian" showrunner Jon Favreau was so concerned about toy spoilers that he refused to allow any manufacturer to get the design for Baby Yoda until after the show's 2019 premiere.
Season 4 of "Stranger Things" is split into two parts. "Volume 1" is set to debut on May 27, with "Volume 2" following later on July 1 on Netflix.
