AceShowbiz - Andy Cohen is showing remorse after he slammed Ryan Seacrest while co-hosting CNN's "New Year's Eve Live" special with Anderson Cooper. In the Monday, January 3 episode of SiriusXM's "Andy Cohen Live", the 53-year-old TV personality addressed his highly publicized criticism of ABC's "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" and its host Ryan.
"The only thing that I regret saying, the only thing is that I slammed the ABC broadcast and I really like Ryan Seacrest and he's a great guy," Andy shared. "And I really regret saying that, and I was just stupid and drunk and feeling it."
Andy also talked about the moment when he blasted Arnel Pineda who led Journey's performance that night. "I was continuing the Journey rant and I just kept talking and I shouldn't have. I felt bad about that. So that is the only thing," he added on his radio show. "It's the only thing... That is what I really regret. I really do."
Andy's co-host John Hill then noted that headlines about Andy's comments on Ryan "sucked." Agreeing, Andy responded, "Exactly, that's the problem. Yeah. The headlines about Ryan Seacrest are all like I trash Ryan Seacrest. I hope he hears the clip."
Meanwhile, CNN also issued a statement regarding the drama. Contrary to some reports which said that Andy was fired over his controversial comments on the broadcast, the network is standing by the TV personality. "Andy said something he shouldn't have on live tv. We've addressed it with him and look forward to having him back again next year," CNN said in a statement.
During the NYE broadcast, Andy made comments on the lineup on ABC's competing New Year's Eve show, which included performances by Journey, Ashanti and Ja Rule. "There's lots of smoke coming from Ryan Seacrest's group of losers that are performing behind us. I mean, with all due [respect] if you've been watching ABC tonight, you've seen nothing. I'm sorry. It's true," Andy quipped at the time.
Not stopping there, Andy criticized Arnel Pineda-led Journey as he said, "I just got doused in confetti from the fake Journey appearing on ABC. If it's not Steve Perry, it doesn't count! You get it? It's not Journey!" Andy continued, "It's propaganda! It's propaganda! It's not Journey! It's not Journey! No, that was not Journey. Steve Perry is Journey. No!"
