The upcoming fifth season of the Netflix royal drama series will feature Princess Diana's Panorama sit-down with Martin Bashir as 'the keystone moment.'

AceShowbiz - "The Crown" will reportedly dramatise Princess Diana's controversial Panorama interview in the upcoming fifth season of the show.

According to Britain's The Sun newspaper, the Netflix show will devote an entire episode to the late royal's 1995 sit-down with Martin Bashir - despite her son Prince William's pleas for the chat never to be broadcast again.

"The Crown's creators see the interview as the keystone moment in series five," a source told the publication. "To the writers, the stormy marriage between Charles and Diana led up to her outpouring on Panorama, and the aftermath of that decision defined her final months."

"They are making a huge investment in that. The Crown has a track record of delving into areas of the Royal Family's history they'd rather be left alone."

Diana famously said during the interview that there were "three of us in this marriage" - referring to Charles' relationship with now-wife Camilla - with William calling for it never to be shown again after it was discovered that Bashir used underhand tactics to convince Diana to take part in the questioning.

The fifth season of the show will see Elizabeth Debicki portray Diana and Dominic West star as Prince Charles.

Netflix bosses have yet to comment on The Sun's report.

Debicki takes over Diana role from Emma Corrin while West replaces Josh O'Connor as the heir apparent to the British throne.

Meanwhile, Emerald Fennell previously played Camilla Parker Bowles. She will be replaced by Olivia Williams in the next installment.
