The much-anticipated movie directed by Denis Villeneuve is officially scheduled to hold first-ever screening at the upcoming 78th Venice International Film Festival in Italy.

AceShowbiz - Denis Villeneuve's hotly-anticipated "Dune" will make its world premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival in Italy in September (21).

The filmmaker's adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi bestseller will debut on the Lido on 3 September (21) at the Sala Grande, two days after the festival opens.

Villeneuve was last on the Lido with "Arrival" in 2016.

His new film features Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, and Josh Brolin.

Oscar-winning "Parasite" director Bong Joon Ho will serve as the president of the Venice jury while Italian actor/director Roberto Benigni will receive the festival's Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement Award.

The full line-up for the festival will be unveiled next month (Jul21).

The 78th Venice International Film Festival is scheduled to take place from 1 to 11 September.

Last year, Cate Blanchett served as the jury president for the 2020 event, which was still held in-person, although with a scaled-back programme due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Chloe Zhao's "Nomadland" won the top honor at the event. Meanwhile, the Grand Jury Prize went to Michel Franco's "New Order" and Silver Lion was handed to Kiyoshi Kurosawa for "Wife of a Spy".

The coveted best actress title was given to Vanessa Kirby for her role in "Pieces of a Woman" and the best actor to Pierfrancesco Favino for "Padrenostro".

Meanwhile, "Dune" was originally slated for 2020 release but it was pushed back because of pandemic. It's now scheduled to hit theaters on October 1.
