AceShowbiz - Benny Blanco, Halsey, Khalid and Ed Sheeran have found themselves caught in legal trouble. The four singers/songstress have been hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit over their smash hit, "Eastside".
Filing the suit against the foursome were Konstantine Lois and Shane Williams. TMZ reported that Konstantine and Shane have accused the A-list artists of ripping off a song they wrote in 2015 called "Loveless" for the latters' 2018 track. As for "Loveless", it was unveiled to have been written for Shane's band American XO.
In the legal documents obtained by the outlet, Benny, Halsey and Khalid were listed as the performers. Ed, on the other hand, was named in the papers as the songwriter. In addition to the four stars, Konstantine and Shane are also suing labels that distributed the song, including Interscope and Friends Keep Secrets.
Breaking down alleged musical similarities between the two songs, the plaintiffs claimed in the lawsuit that the note dyads and the note intervals are virtually identical. They also believed that the tempos and the beat are similar.
Konstantine and Shane also pointed to a Vibe interview in which Benny divulged that he listens to 10 to 12 new artists every day to find inspiration. They believed that in one of those days, the 33-year-old record producer found "Loveless" and ended up writing "Eastside".
That aside, this was not the first time Ed was caught in a copyright infringement case. In 2016, he was sued by the heirs of the composer for Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" for allegedly copying core elements of the 1973 song and using them on "Thinking Out Loud".
Later in 2018, Structured Asset Sales (SAS) slapped the British crooner with a $100 million lawsuit over the same song. The company claimed that it previously purchased one-third of the copyright of Marvin's "Let's Get it On".
