The cast and crew members are scheduled to begin production for the much-awaited big-screen adaptation of the British hit crime drama series this coming fall.

AceShowbiz - Idris Elba will be stepping back into his role as obsessive police detective Luther to begin production on a long-awaited movie adaptation this year (21).
The British actor, who also executive produces the hit BBC crime drama series, has revealed cameras will finally start rolling in the autumn. "We go into production, fingers crossed, in September," he told Variety. "I'm so excited about it, it's been a long time coming."
"We're very, very close to pulling the green light on production."
Elba made his debut as the titular brooding detective in 2010, and has so far starred in five seasons, with the last airing in 2019.
The production news emerges almost a year after Elba admitted he was still pushing to turn "Luther" into a TV movie.
"There isn't a real formal plan for Luther at the moment," he said last July (20). "I've made it very clear that I'd like to see Luther come back as a film. And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of Luther."
Despite receiving prestigious accolades including a Golden Globe and numerous Emmys, "Luther" was branded "unauthentic" by BBC's creative diversity chief Miranda Wayland. "When it first came out everybody loved the fact that Idris Elba was in there - a really strong, Black character lead," she said.
"We all fell in love with him. Who didn't, right? But after you got into about the second series, you got kind of like, OK, he doesn't have any Black friends, he doesn't eat any Caribbean food, this doesn't feel authentic."
She added, "It's about making sure that everything around them - their environment, their culture, the set - is absolutely reflective."
