The 'Annie Hall' filmmaker claims stars like Selena, Timothee Chalamet, Colin Firth, and Greta Gerwig were just following fashion when they apologized for working with him.

AceShowbiz - Woody Allen has accused actors who have apologised for working with him due to his adoptive daughter Dylan's child sexual abuse accusations of following fashion rather than knowing the facts.

The stars of his new movie, "A Rainy Day in New York", Timothee Chalamet and Selena Gomez have both said they now regret working with him due to the controversy over the longstanding, but strongly denied, allegations he sexually abused Dylan.

However, the "Annie Hall" filmmaker says stars like Chalamet, Gomez and others including Mira Sorvino, Greta Gerwig, Colin Firth, and Rebecca Hall have only ditched him because it's the latest fashion in Hollywood.

Complaining they don't know the truth, he tells The Guardian, "It's silly. The actors have no idea of the facts and they latch on to some self-serving, public, safe position. Who in the world is not against child molestation? That's how actors and actresses are, and (denouncing me) became the fashionable thing to do, like everybody suddenly eating kale."

Allen also claims Chalamet's public disavowal of him in 2018 was only made as he was on the Oscar trail after starring in "Call Me by Your Name".

"Timothee afterward publicly stated he regretted working with me and was giving the money to charity," the 84-year-old adds. "But he swore to my sister he needed to do that as he was up for an Oscar for Call Me by Your Name, and he and his agent felt he had a better chance of winning if he denounced me, so he did."

The allegations Allen abused the daughter he adopted with actress Mia Farrow first surfaced in 1992, during a bitter custody battle that followed the director's affair with Farrow's other adoptive daughter Soon-Yi Previn, who is now Allen's wife.

The filmmaker was never charged following two separate investigations in the 1990s, but Dylan has repeated the allegations as an adult, and Farrow and her and Allen's biological son, journalist Ronan Farrow, have also continued to publicly slam him.
