The 'Dark Knight' actor is reportedly in talks to star in the fourth 'Thor' movie, which will have Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman reprising their roles as the God of Thunder and Jane Foster respectively.

AceShowbiz - Christian Bale is looking to join another comic book franchise, eight years after the end of his stint in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. The Academy Award-winning actor is reportedly in talks to star in Marvel's upcoming film "Thor: Love and Thunder".

Collider was the first to report the news, but there's still no word on the role that is offered to Bale. Should he seal the deal, he will star opposite Chris Hemsworth, who is reprising his role as the God of Thunder, and Natalie Portman, who is set to reprise her role as Jane Foster, in the upcoming movie.

Tessa Thompson will also reprise her "Thor: Ragnarok" role as Valkyrie, while Taika Waititi, who is set to return to direct the fourth movie, will once again provide the voice of Korg. Both Valkyrie and Korg made appearance in Marvel's big blockbuster 2019's "Avengers: Endgame", along with Thor and other Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

In "Love and Thunder", Jane will become the first female Thor. Speaking to Variety back in October of last year, Waititi hinted that he considered following a similar storyline to the comic books for the movie.

"I think that's a really powerful part of the books," he said of Jane's breast cancer battle. "I think it's really cool that she's fighting this thing and there's two battles going on. Personally I really love that storyline. But whether it ends up in the film is yet to be seen."

He added, "We're not sure if we're going to do a complete lift of that whole storyline. These things change through the shoot and even when we're editing sometimes. Like, 'Let's get rid of that storyline where she's got breast cancer. We'll change it to something else, or maybe she's fine.' "

In the comic books, Thor loses his superhero title after becoming unworthy to wield his magical hammer, Mjolnir. A mysterious female then picks up the hammer and calls herself The Mighty Thor while, elsewhere, Jane is diagnosed and treated for breast cancer.

"Thor: Love and Thunder" is slated for a November 5, 2021 release in the United States.

Bale won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award in 2011 for his role in "The Fighter". He earned his second Golden Globe in 2019 for his portrayal of Dick Cheney in "Vice (2018)". He is also widely known for playing Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman in "Batman Begins" (2005) and its two sequels. The British actor most recently graced the big screen in James Mangold's sports drama "Ford v Ferrari", which has earned him an SAG Award nomination.
