The fourth installment in the 'Thor' film series easily wins the competition in North America despite dropping a hefty 68% on its second weekend of release.

AceShowbiz - The mighty Thor is unchallenged at Box Office. "Thor: Love and Thunder" has maintained its reign at the North American chart despite a significant drop on its second weekend of release.

The fourth installment in the "Thor" film franchise added an estimated $46 million on the latest three-day weekend, dropping a hefty 68% percent from last week. The sizeable decline is more than most Marvel films, but in line with recent releases from the studio, including "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (68%), "Black Widow" (68%) and "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" (67%).

Not making it easier, "Love and Thunder" has been facing tons of criticism from critics and fans alike, with many finding the extreme humor a bit too much. "I am sad, #ThorLoveAndThunder is dogs**t, and @TaikaWaititi made Thor into a moron, a bafoon, and wasted a great villain, Jane, and Valkyrie. So yep, I won't accept trash and the movie will fall off a cliff this weekend. #MarvelStudios #firetaika," one disappointed fan tweeted.

Another pointed out, "Have you ever read Thor, he is over 1000 years old god, he wouldn't joke. Men are ants to him, both comic book Thor and Norse Thor. Gorr butchered 1000s of gods, he was a bada**, we never see that, because Thor is joking. Thor cuts Gorr's head off, Jane doesn't die, no story. Dogs***."

However, one fan noted one particularly hilarious moment in Thor's comic, in which the God of Thunder has a dance-off with Luke Cage. "Dawg he had a dance-off with Luke Cage. Stop acting like Thor can only be one thing," the said user wrote. Agreeing with this, director Taika Waititi replied to the fan, "Lol YES."

Back at the box office, "Minions: The Rise of Gru" is also a non-mover at No. 2 with approximately $26 million. "Where the Crawdads Sing" enters at No. 3, beating expectations with an estimated $17 million opening despite weak reviews. The Reese Witherspoon-produced mystery which stars Daisy Edgar-Jones earned 37% fresh rating on aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, but moviegoers loved it better as they gave the movie an average grade of A-.

"Top Gun: Maverick" is down one place to No. 4 with an estimated $12 million, seeing a modest drop of 22% from last week. Giving up its fourth spot, "Elvis" is pushed to No. 5 with approximately $7.6 million.
