The Tom Hooper-directed movie starring Taylor Swift, Judi Dench, and Jennifer Hudson is set to suffer multi-million dollar losses following lukewarm performance.

AceShowbiz - Tom Hooper's big screen adaptation of "Cats" is proving a financial risk for Universal Pictures, with the movie set to lose at least $71 million, according to a new report.
The movie, starring Taylor Swift, Jason Derulo, Judi Dench, and Jennifer Hudson, has been widely panned by critics and audiences alike, and has subsequently been removed from Universal's For Your Consideration page for the 2020 Oscars.
According to Deadline, however, the failures don't stop there, with financial sources claiming Universal, Amblin Entertainment, and Working Title Films - the studios behind "Cats" - stand to lose a minimum of $71 million, which "is based off a production cost of $90 million net - the pic was shot on soundstages in London - and a $115 million estimated global prints and advertising spend."
They added, "Broken further out, total worldwide theatrical rentals, global free/pay TV and global home entertainment revenues including streaming are expected to total at least $155 million. Home entertainment costs plus global prints and advertising stands around $226 million."
Despite the negative reviews, however, it's not all bad news for "Cats", with "Young Sheldon" star Iain Armitage sharing on Sunday, December 29, "Finally got to see Cats the Movie!!"
"Especially enjoyed Dame Judy Dench as Old Deuteronomy and Sir Ian McKellen as Gus. Actually loved ALL the parts where there were cats who sang and danced lol."
