AceShowbiz - R. Kelly skipped a sexual assault court date in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, October 30, blaming his absence on a toe infection.
The "Ignition (Remix)" singer, who was arrested in July on separate federal counts in New York and Chicago, was due to attend a status hearing, but his lawyer, Steven Greenberg, told U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber his client is recovering from having a toenail removed as a result of the infection.
Greenberg claimed the 52-year-old, who has been fitted with a walking boot, was concerned someone would accidentally step on his injured foot if he was transported from his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center to the courthouse.
Kelly was excused and is next due to face the judge in February (20), ahead of his trial in April.
He stands accused of sexually assaulting four females, including three who were reportedly underage at the time of the alleged incidents.
The musician is also facing charges in New York and Minnesota.
He has denied all the accusations.
