AceShowbiz - R. Kelly has been removed from solitary confinement after spending roughly two weeks in a special housing unit at a federal prison in North Carolina.

The 59-year-old singer was placed in isolation at the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner following the discovery of a notebook in his cell containing the phone number of a retired prison official. This prompted an internal investigation to determine how he acquired the contact information.

Kelly’s attorney, Beau Brindley, explained that the situation was related to a mentorship connection rather than any wrongdoing. According to Brindley, “No impropriety whatsoever was found with respect to his possession of the telephone number of a former prison official.”

While the review was underway, Kelly remained in special housing. Brindley stated that he was held there for about two weeks without valid cause before being released.

Kelly is currently serving a 30-year federal sentence after convictions involving racketeering and sex crimes in cases from New York and Illinois.

During his time in isolation, his legal team also raised concerns about his health and the conditions inside the facility. Previously, Kelly had accused a prison staff member of attempting to harm him, though prison officials have not confirmed this allegation.

Following the conclusion of the investigation, Kelly was taken out of solitary confinement. The review found no evidence of misconduct related to the notebook or the phone number it contained.
