Joining the 'Gone Girl' actress on the upcoming series, which is based on the late Robert Jordan's best-selling book series, are Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, Zoe Robins, Barney Harris and Madeleine Madden.

AceShowbiz - Amazon has revealed the bulk of the casting for its lead roles for its TV adaptation for "The Wheel of Time". Joining Rosamund Pike on the upcoming series, which is based on the late Robert Jordan's best-selling book series, are Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, Zoe Robins, Barney Harris and Madeleine Madden.

Stradowski is set to take on the role of Rand al'Thor, while Rutherford will be playing Perrin Aybara. Robins joins the cast as Nynaeve. As for Harris, he will portray Mat Cauthon with Madden playing Egwene Al'Vere.

"The Wheel of Time" is set in a high fantasy world where magic exists, but only certain women are allowed to access it. The fantasy series follows Moiraine (Pike) as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women. One of them is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn (Stradowski), a powerful individual who will either save humanity or destroy it.

Rafe Judkins ("Hemlock Grove", "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.") is attached as executive producer and showrunner. Also executive producing the series are Larry Mondragon and Rick Selvage of Red Eagle Entertainment, Ted Field and Mike Weber of Radar Pictures, Darren Lemke, Marigo Kehoe and Uta Briesewitz.

Additionally, Briesewitz will direct the first two episodes of the project. Meanwhile, Harriet McDougal and Brandon Sanderson will serve as consulting producers with Pike producing. Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television co-produce "The Wheel of Time".

Amazon is not the first network which attempts to adapt the hit fantasy novels since it has been in development in one form or another since 2000. However, the projects mostly never made it past that stage. Back in 2015, a pilot episode titled "Winter Dragon" aired on FXX. Starring Max Ryan and Billy Zane, it aired at 1:30 A.M. without publicity beforehand.
