AceShowbiz - Bushwick Bill has lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. Following his family's statement that he was "fighting for his life," his rep has now confirmed in a statement that the founding member of Geto Boys passed away on Sunday evening, June 9 in Houston. He was 52.
"Bushwick Bill passed away peacefully this evening at 9:35 P.M. He was surrounded by his immediate family," so his publicist Dawn P. said in the statement. "There were incorrect previous reports that he had passed away this morning. We are looking into doing a public memorial at a later date. His family appreciates all of the prayers and support and are asking for privacy at this time."
Meanwhile, his son Javon told TMZ that Bill's final words were, "I will love you forever."
This arrived just hours after his family denied reports of his death, insisting that the musician was alive and in hospital with family by his side. "Contrary to what has been prematurely, insensitively and inaccurately posted/reported My dad IS NOT dead, he's still alive and fighting for his life," read a message posted on Bill's Instagram account. "He needs your continued support."
The message continued to read, "Certain people have been so quick to write him off as dead so they can capitalize off it, and it's messed up because yall (sic) really think these people care about him. There is no Geto Boys without Bushwick Bill... On behalf of the family we're requesting privacy until further notice."
Bill, who was born with dwarfism, was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in February. "I figure keeping it to myself is not really helping anybody, and I'm not really afraid of dying because if anyone knows anything about me from 'Ever So Clear', I died and came back already in June 1991, so I know what it's like on the other side," the rapper said at the time, referring to the incident where he accidentally shot himself in the eye.
